Routine, or preventive maintenance is exactly as it implies; maintenance that is performed at suggested intervals that keeps small problems from becoming large ones. For example, it is much easier (and cheaper in the long run) to check the engine oil regularly than to have the engine run low on oil and damage the bearings (a major overhaul job). Read this section carefully and follow its recommendations closely for as close to optimum performance as possible.
