Cylinder Liners

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Diesel Engine Only

Fig. 1: Measuring cylinder liner protrusion (diesel only)

Fig. 2: Measuring points for cylinder liner dimensions

NOTE: A hydraulic press and adapters are necessary for this procedure.

  1. Remove the engine.
  2. Remove the head.
  3. Remove the pistons and connecting rods.
  4. r the crankshaft and bearings.
  5. Remove the camshaft.
  6. Mount the block in the holding fixture under the press ram, bottom side up.
  7. Drive the liners from the block.
  8. Check the block bore for scratches. Remove them with an oil-soaked fine emery paper.
  9. Invert the block and press the new liners in from the top.

NOTE: Normal pressing pressure is 2,200–6,600 lb. Press pressure higher than 6,600 lb. will distort the liner; pressures lower than 2,200 lb. will result in a loose fit.

  10. Once the liner is in place, check its protrusion above the head surface. Protrusion should be 0.66–0.78mm (0.02598–0.03071 in.).
  11. Check the liner bore. Bore for a new liner should be 88.9mm0.05mm (3.50 in.0.00197 in.).
