REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Drain the complete cooling system and engine block.
  2. Drill or punch a hole in the center of the freeze plug and pull it out from the engine block with a slide hammer or equivalent.

    CAUTION
When draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

NOTE: Stay away from the freeze plug location when working, as coolant will flow from the engine when the plug is removed.

  3. Check the bore for roughness or burrs. If the bore is badly damaged, hone it and use an oversized freeze plug.
  4. Coat the new freeze plug with sealer and drive into the correct position.
  5. Refill the cooling system. Start the engine and check for coolant leaks.
