Steering Column

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1972–84 Vehicles
  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2. Remove the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the column cover.
  4. Remove the combination switch.
  5. Remove the column bracket-to-instrument panel bolts.
  6. Remove the carpet and insulator.
  7. Remove the floor panel opening cover bolts and pull the jacket off the steering shaft.
  8. Remove the bolt at the steering shaft-to-wormshaft coupling and pull the column up and out of the truck.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

  1. Disconnect the battery ground.
  2. Remove the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the column cover.
  4. Remove the combination switch.
  5. Remove the column bracket-to-instrument panel bolts.
  6. Remove the carpet and insulator.
  7. Remove the floor panel opening cover bolts and pull the jacket off the steering shaft.
  8. Remove the bolt at the steering shaft-to-intermediate shaft coupling bolt and pull the column up and out of the truck.
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torque:
