ADJUSTMENT

Airflow Mode Cable
MX-3, 1990–94 323 AND PROTEGE
  1. Position the mode lever to the DEFROST position.
  2. From under the dash at the control linkage on the heater unit side, remove the cable from the retaining clip.
  3. Align the set pin hole with the matching hole of the heater unit and insert a pin in the holes to hold in place.
  4. Make certain that the mode lever is in the DEFROST position.
  5. Connect the mode cable to the retaining clip. Keep tension on the wire when installing the clip.
  6. Check the function of the mode lever. If the lever functions properly, remove the set pin.
1990–92 626 AND MX-6
  1. Position the mode control lever to the DEFROST position.
  2. At the control linkage, located on the side of the heater assembly, adjust the shutter lever so that it is as close as can be to the heater unit. Clamp the wire tight at that point.
  3. Check the mode control lever for proper operation.
Mix/Temperature Blend Cable
MX-3, 1990–94 323 AND PROTEGE
  1. At the heater assembly, disconnect the mix cable from the heater unit.
  2. Set the mix lever to the COLD position.
  3. Set the door to the COLD position and tighten the clamp to the cable in place.
  4. Check the operation of the mix lever.
REC/FRESH Control Cable
MX-3, 1990–94 323 AND PROTEGE
  1. Position the REC/FRESH control lever in the fresh air position.
  2. Remove the passenger's side sound deadening panel.
  3. Remove the cable located on the left side of the blower case from the cable housing brace.
  4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. With the cable end on the door lever pin, push the door lever forward to its extreme stop.
  5. Secure the cable into the cable housing brace.
  6. Check the air door control lever for proper operation.
  7. Install the passenger's side sound deadening panel.
