REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Front Door Speakers

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Fig. 1: To remove the front speaker, first remove the door trim, then loosen and remove the speaker attaching screws . . .

   Fig. 2: . . . and carefully pull the speaker from the door

   Fig. 3: Finally, detach the wire harness plug from the speaker

2. Remove the inner door trim panel. Refer to the procedure in Section 10.
3. Remove the speaker retaining screws.
4. Pull out the speaker and unplug the electrical connector.
5. Remove the speaker.

   WARNING
   Handle the speaker carefully to avoid damaging the cone during removal and installation.

6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

Rear Speakers

REAR SHELF MOUNTED SPEAKERS

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. On 1990–92 626, MX-6, 1990–94 323 and Protege, remove the rear package trim panel. Refer to the procedure in Section 10.

3. On all other models, remove the speaker cover by carefully prying it off.

   Fig. 5: Remove the speaker attaching screws . . .

   Fig. 6: . . . and carefully lift the speaker up to access the wire harness plug

   Fig. 7: Finally, detach the wire harness plug from the speaker and remove the speaker from the vehicle

4. Remove the speaker retaining screws.
5. Unplug the electrical connector.
6. Remove the speaker.

   WARNING
   Handle the speaker carefully to avoid damaging the cone during removal and installation.

7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

REAR QUARTER MOUNTED SPEAKERS

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the speaker cover.
3. Remove the speaker retaining screws.
4. Unplug the electrical connector.
5. Remove the speaker.

   WARNING
   Handle the speaker carefully to avoid damaging the cone during removal and installation.

6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
