REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Block the wheels and apply the parking brake. Place the gear shift in NEUTRAL.

   Fig. 3: Use a small prybar and detach the gear select cable end from the transaxle manual select lever

   Fig. 4: Then lift the cable up and out of its retaining bracket and move it aside

3. As necessary for access, remove the resonance chamber, fresh air duct and air cleaner assembly.
4. Remove the spring pin and clip and disconnect the shift cable or rod at the transaxle and the switch manual lever.

   Fig. 6: . . . then remove it along with its lockwasher

   Fig. 7: Ensure that the lever is still in the neutral position and matchmark the shaft, lever and switch housing

   Fig. 8: Remove the manual select lever . . .

   Fig. 9: . . . then loosen the switch attaching screws . . .

   Fig. 10: . . . and remove the attaching screws

5. Remove the manual shaft nut, lockwasher and lever.

   NOTE: As a precaution, make a matchmark on the shaft, manual lever and the switch assembly.

   Fig. 11: Lift the park/neutral switch assembly from the shaft . . .

   Fig. 12: . . . and detach the electrical wire harness connector from it

6. Remove the switch mounting bolts and the switch.
7. Disconnect the neutral safety switch connector.

   To install:

8. Rotate the manual shaft to N.
9. Turn the neutral safety switch so the neutral mark is in line with the flat, straight surfaces on either side of the manual shaft.
10. Loosely tighten the switch bolts and adjust the switch. Tighten the bolts to 70–95 inch lbs. (8–11 Nm).
11. Install the manual shaft nut, lockwasher and lever. Torque to 24–33 ft. lbs. (32–46 Nm).
12. Connect the neutral safety switch electrical connector.
13. Connect the shift cable at the transaxle. Install the spring pin and clip.
14. If removed, install the resonance chamber, fresh air duct and air cleaner assembly.
15. Connect the negative battery cable.
