If the master cylinder has been emptied of fluid or replaced, it must be bled
separately from the rest of the system. Since the cylinder has no check valve,
air can become trapped within it. To bleed the brake master cylinder after it
has been drained, proceed as follows:
- Disconnect the 2 brake lines from the master cylinder. Plug the lines immediately.
The brake fluid reservoir should be in place and connected to the master cylinder.
Check the fluid level before beginning.
- An assistant should slowly depress and hold the brake pedal.
- With the pedal held down, use 2 fingers to plug each outlet port on the
master cylinder and release the brake pedal.
- Repeat Steps 2 and 3 three or four times. The air will be bled from the
cylinder.
- Connect the brake lines to the master cylinder and tighten the fittings.
- Start the engine, allowing the system to pressurize and self–check.
Shut the ignition OFF and bleed the brake lines.
