Cables

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Except Millenia
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the rear center console as follows:
    1. Remove the screw plugs in the side covers. Remove the retainer screws and the side covers from the vehicle.
    2. Remove the mounting bolts and the floor console from the vehicle.
  3. Loosen the cable adjusting nut at the parking brake handle. Disconnect the brake cable from the handle and remove the retaining spring.
  4. Raise the vehicle and support safely. Remove the parking brake cable mounting bolts. Disconnect the cable end from the parking brake assembly.
  5. Unfasten any remaining frame retainers and remove the cables from the vehicle.

    To install:

  6. Install the cable to the rear actuator. Secure in place with the parking brake cable mounting bolts.
  7. Reattach the parking brake cables to the parking brake handle inside the vehicle. Tighten the adjusting nut until the proper tension is placed on the cable.
  8. Secure all cable retainers tightening to 14–18 ft. lbs. (19–25 Nm). Apply and release the parking brake a number of times once all adjustments have been made. With the rear wheels raised, make sure the parking brake is not causing drag on the rear wheels.
  9. Install the rear center console assembly.
  10. Road test the vehicle and check for proper brake operation. Check that the parking brake holds the vehicle on an incline.
Millenia
FRONT CABLE
  1. Remove the console around the parking brake lever.
  2. Remove the nut securing the front parking brake cable to the lever.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4. Disconnect the rear parking brake cables from the equalizer.
  5. Installation is reverse of removal. Torque the front parking cable nut to 14–18 ft. lbs. (19–25 Nm).
REAR CABLE
  1. Disconnect the front cable from the rear cables.
  2. Remove the clips and mounting bolts and remove the cables.
  3. The rear parking brake shoe assembly must be removed for the rear cable to be disconnected and removed.
  4. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the mounting screws to 14–18 ft. lbs. (19–25 Nm).
