The windshield wiper circuit consists of the ignition switch, wiper and washer switches, wiper motor, washer motors and relays for the intermittent function. Some models include intermittent rear window wipers and therefore have relays to control this function as well.
When the windshield wiper switch is turned on and the ignition switch is in the ON or START position, battery voltage is applied to the wiper/washer fuse to the front wiper/washer switch (in the combination switch) and front wiper motor pawl and switch contacts. A fuse, located in the fuse block, protects the circuitry of the wiper system and the vehicle.
The wiper motor has permanent magnet fields. The speeds are determined by current flow to the appropriate set of brushes.
