Transfer Case Assembly

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

1997–98 MPV

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Drain the transfer case.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable
   • Exhaust front pipe
   • Front driveshaft
   • Rear driveshaft
   • Transmission mount and crossmember. Support the transmission.
   • Exhaust heat shields
   • Transfer case harness connectors
   • Speedometer cable
   • Transfer case

   To install:

4. Install or connect the following:
   • Transfer case. Tighten the flange bolts to 27–39 ft. lbs. (37–52 Nm).
   • Speedometer cable
   • Transfer case harness connectors
   • Exhaust heat shields
   • Transmission mount and crossmember. Tighten the bolts to 32–44 ft. lbs. (44–60 Nm) and the nuts to 24–33 ft. lbs. (32–46 Nm).
   • Rear driveshaft
   • Front driveshaft
   • Exhaust front pipe
   • Negative battery cable
5. Fill the transfer case tot he correct level.
