- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning
of this section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
- Negative battery cable
- Transaxle/transmission assembly
- Clutch/flywheel assembly, if equipped with a manual transaxle/transmission
- Flexplate/shim plates, if equipped with an automatic transaxle/transmission
- Cut the oil seal lip with a knife. Install a rag to the housing and using
a prytool, carefully pry the oil seal from the oil seal housing.
- Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
To install:
- Clean the oil seal housing. Coat the oil seal and the housing with clean
engine oil.
- Install or connect the following:
- New oil seal into the housing by tapping it evenly into place with a
hammer and a seal installer until it is flush with the edge of the rear
cover.
- Clutch/flywheel assembly or the flexplate, as applicable
- Transaxle/transmission
- Negative battery cable
