Removal & Installation

CAUTION
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush the air conditioning system prior to installing a new air conditioning compressor.

CAUTION
Only refrigerant oil (Motorcraft YN-12c) should be used to lubricate the O-ring seals. Only PAG refrigerant compressor oil (F7AZ-19589-DA/Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent meeting the manufacturer’s specification should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.

NOTE: The compressor contains refrigerant oil. Do not allow the oil to drain out of the compressor. Any oil that drains out of the compressor must be replaced.

To Remove:

  1. Recover the refrigerant.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Remove the drive belt.
  4. Remove the bolts.
  5. Move the A/C compressor forward, remove the manifold retaining bolt, and then remove the A/C compressor.

To Install:

NOTE: Apply pipe sealant with Teflon® D8AZ-19554-A onto the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt.

  1. Install the A/C compressor, install the manifold retaining bolt, and then move the A/C compressor back. Tighten to 13-17 ft-lb (17-23 Nm).
  2. Install the bolts. Tighten to 16-21 ft-lb (21.2-28.8 Nm).
  3. Install the drive belt.
  4. Connect the electrical connector.
  5. Refill the refrigerant.
