Suction Accumulator/Drier

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

CAUTION
Only use refrigerant compressor oil (mineral oil) (F73Z-19577-AA/Motorcraft YN-9-A) to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring and do not add to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant. Only PAG refrigerant compressor oil (F7AZ-19589-DA/Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent meeting the manufacturer’s specification should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.

  1. Recover the refrigerant.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector for the A/C cycling switch and then remove the A/C cycling switch.
  3. Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube from the suction accumulator/drier.

    CAUTION
To prevent damage to the fitting and tube, use a back-up wrench.

  4. Disconnect the suction accumulator/drier from the A/C evaporator core.
  5. Remove the clamp screw and remove the suction accumulator/drier.

To Install:

NOTE: Make sure to lubricate the refrigerant system with clean PAG oil.

NOTE: If you are installing a new suction accumulator, transfer the A/C cycling switch to the new suction accumulator.

  1. Install the suction accumulator/drier and the clamp screw. Tighten to 53-71 in-lb (6-8 Nm).
  2. Connect the suction accumulator/drier to the A/C evaporator core. Tighten to 26-31 ft-lb (35-42 Nm).
  3. Connect the A/C manifold and tube to the suction accumulator/drier.
  4. Install the A/C cycling switch and then connect the electrical connector. Tighten to 13-33 in-lb (1.4-3.8 Nm).
  5. Refill the refrigerant.
