WARNING
When repairing starter motor or doing maintenance near the starter motor, be aware that the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure a new protective cap is installed over the terminal after the repair.
To Remove:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the starter cable retainer nut then release the retainer from the stud.
- Remove the bolts and lower the starter motor then remove the cap.
- Remove the terminal nuts and starter motor.
To Install:
- Install the starter motor and terminal nuts. Torque upper bolt to 98-115 in-lb (11-13 Nm) and lower bolt to 45-53 in-lb (5-6 Nm).
- Put on the cap, raise the starter motor then install the bolts. Torque to 17-20 ft-lb (22-28 Nm).
- Install the retainer into the stud then install the starter cable retainer nut.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
