Coolant Reservoir (Expansion Tank)

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

WARNING
Do not unscrew the coolant pressure relief cap when the engine is running or still hot. Doing so can cause serious personal injury. The cooling system is under pressure, so if the cap is unscrewed at all, steam and hot liquid can spray out with great force. Follow instructions carefully to avoid personal injury.

  1. Slowly turn the pressure relief cap one half turn counterclockwise to release the pressure in the cooling system. Once the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
  2. Use hose clamp pliers to clamp the coolant return hose.
  3. Siphon the coolant from the degas bottle with an appropriate suction device.
  4. Remove the speed control servo mounting bolt and position the servo aside, if the vehicle is equipped with this.
  5. Disconnect the coolant hoses.
  6. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the coolant recovery reservoir from the vehicle.

To Install:

  1. Install the coolant recovery reservoir and bolts.
  2. Connect the coolant hoses.
  3. If equipped, install the speed control servo mounting bolt. Torque to 9 ft-lb (12 Nm).
  4. Fill the degas bottle.
