Exhaust Manifold

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Put the vehicle in neutral and place it on a hoist.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the exhaust flange nuts.
  5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  6. Drain the engine cooling system.
  7. Disconnect the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir hose.
  8. Remove the A/C compressor.
  9. Disconnect the heater hose.
  10. Remove the dipstick and the upper bolt for the tube assembly.
  11. Remove the lower bolt and remove the dipstick tube assembly.
  12. Remove the bolts and the front coolant outlet pipe.
  13. Remove the pushpins and position the right inner fender splash shield out of the way.
  14. Disconnect the alternator.
  15. Remove the lower front end accessory drive (FEAD) mounting bolts.
  16. Remove the upper mounting bolt and the FEAD assembly.
  17. Remove the two nuts and move the coolant tube to the side.
  18. Remove the nuts and the exhaust manifold.
  19. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.

To Install:

  1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold and the nuts. Torque the fasteners to 40 ft-lb (54 Nm).
  3. Position the coolant tube and install the nuts. Torque to 15 ft-lb (20 Nm).
  4. Position the FEAD bracket and install the bolts finger tight. Tighten the bolts to 35 ft-lb (47 Nm).
  5. Connect the alternator. Torque to 71 in-lb (8 Nm).
  6. Position the right inner splash shield and install the pushpins.
  7. Install the front coolant outlet pipe and install the bolts. Torque to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  8. Install the dipstick tube assembly and the lower bolt. Torque to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
  9. Install the dipstick tube upper bolt and the dipstick.  Torque to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
  10. Connect the heater hose.
  11. Install the A/C compressor.
  12. Connect the upper radiator hose and the engine reservoir hose.
  13. Install the accessory drive belt.
  14. Install the exhaust flange nuts. Torque to 30 ft-lb (40 Nm).
  15. Connect the battery ground cable.
  16. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
  17. Start the engine. Check for any leaks and repair as necessary.
