Oil Pump

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the timing belt.
  4. Disconnect the connector for the camshaft position sensor.
  5. Remove the oil pump sprocket.
  6. Remove the camshaft position (CMP) sensor.
  7. Remove the oil pump and throw away the gasket.
  8. Clean all of the oil pump and cylinder block gasket surfaces.

To Install:

NOTE: Examine the oil pump and O-rings.

  1. Install new O-rings as necessary.
  2. Make sure to prime the oil pump with 8 oz (236 ml) of the correct type of motor oil through the inlet port at the rear of the pump.
  3. Install the oil pump with a new gasket. Torque to 89-123 in-lb (10-14 Nm).
  4. Install the camshaft position sensor and the timing belt.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Start the engine and check for leaks. Repair if necessary.
