Valve Cover

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube, the accelerator control splash shield, and the accelerator cable.
  3. Disconnect the crankcase vent hose from the valve cover.
  4. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring from the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor.
  5. Disconnect the intake side spark plug wires from the front ignition coil.
  6. Disconnect the exhaust side spark plug wire retainers and the engine control wiring harness.
  7. Remove the throttle body and throw away the gasket then remove the vacuum line from the EGR valve and intake manifold.
  8. Remove the valve cover and throw away the gasket.
  9. Clean and examine the sealing surfaces.

To Install:

  1. Clean and examine the sealing surfaces.
  2. Install the valve cover with a new gasket. Torque to 80-115 in-lb (9-13 Nm).
  3. Install the vacuum line to the EGR valve and intake manifold.
  4. Install the throttle body with a new gasket.
  5. Connect the exhaust side spark plug wire retainers and the engine control wiring harness to the studs on the valve cover.
  6. Connect the intake side spark plug wires to the front ignition coil.
  7. Connect the fuel charging wiring to the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor.
  8. Connect the crankcase vent hose to the valve cover.
  9. Install the accelerator cable and the accelerator control splash shield.
  10. Install the air cleaner outlet tube.
  11. Connect the IAT sensor and the negative battery cable.
