Removal & Installation

WARNING
When repairing starter motor or doing maintenance near the starter motor, be aware that the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure a new protective cap is installed over the terminal after the repair.

To Remove:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the bolts and lower the starter motor.
  4. Remove the cap.
  5. Remove the nuts and the starter motor.

To Install

  1. Install the starter motor and nuts. Torque upper bolt to 98-115 in-lb (11-13 Nm) and lower bolt to 45-53 in-lb (5-6 Nm).
  2. Install the cap.
  3. Install the starter motor and the bolts. Torque to 17-20 ft-lb (22-28 Nm).
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
