Engine Front Cover

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Drain the engine coolant.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
  3. Remove the fan and shroud assembly.
  4. Remove the bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
  5. Remove the A/C compressor mounting bracket bolts.
  6. Remove the bolts and place the power steering bracket and the compressor to the side.
  7. Disconnect the lower radiator hose at the coolant pump outlet.
  8. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal.
  9. Remove the oil pan.
  10. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
  11. Remove the engine front cover, and then remove the bolts.
  12. Remove and the front cover gasket and throw it away.

To Install:

  1. Clean all sealing surfaces and position a new front cover gasket.
  2. Install the engine front cover.
  3. Apply pipe sealant with Teflon® (D8AZ-19554-A or an equivalent) to the bolts to be installed in the locations seen in the illustration.

  4. Install the engine front cover and bolts.

  5. Install the crankshaft position sensor and torque to 71-106 in-lb (8-12 Nm).
  6. Install the oil pan.
  7. Install the crankshaft front oil seal.
  8. Fasten the lower radiator hose to the coolant pump outlet and torque to 38 ft-lb (51 Nm).
  9. Position back the A/C compressor and the power steering bracket and torque to 35 ft-lb (48 Nm).
  10. Install the bolts onto the A/C compressor mounting bracket and torque to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  11. Install the coolant pump pulley and the bolts.
  12. Install the fan and shroud assembly.
  13. Install the accessory drive belt.
  14. Connect the battery ground cable.
  15. Drain the engine oil.
  16. Refill the engine with clean Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30–QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153–G.
  17. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
