Removal & Installation

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain the engine cooling system.
4. Remove the lower intake manifold.
5. Remove the rocker arms and the push rods.
6. Remove the tappet guide plate retainer, the valve tappet guide plates, and the valve tappets.

To Install:

1. Lubricate the valve tappets and bores with the correct type of motor oil before installation.
2. Install the valve tappet guide plates.
3. Install the tappet guide plate retainer. Torque to 89-123 in-lb (10-14 Nm).
4. Install the push rods and rocker arms. Torque to 19-28 ft-lb (26-38 Nm).
5. Install the lower intake manifold.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Fill and bleed the engine cooling system.
