Removal & Installation

CAUTION
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush the air conditioning system prior to installing a new air conditioning compressor.

CAUTION
Only refrigerant oil (Motorcraft YN-12c) should be used to lubricate the O-ring seals. Only PAG refrigerant compressor oil (F7AZ-19589-DA/Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent meeting the manufacturer’s specification should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.

NOTE: The compressor contains refrigerant oil. Do not allow the oil to drain out of the compressor. Any oil that drains out of the compressor must be replaced.

To Remove:

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system then disconnect the electrical connectors from the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor pressure relief valve.
  2. Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
  3. Remove the manifold retaining bolt.
  4. Remove the bolts and remove the A/C compressor.
  5. Throw away the O-ring seals.

To Install:

  1. Install the A/C compressor and bolts. Torque to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  2. Install the manifold retaining bolt. Torque to 13-17 ft-lb (17-23 Nm).
  3. Install the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
  4. Connect the electrical connectors to the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor pressure relief valve.
  5. Recharge the air conditioning system with the proper type and amount of refrigerant.
  6. Check the operation of the air conditioning system.
