CAUTION
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush the air conditioning system prior to installing a new air conditioning compressor.
CAUTION
Only refrigerant oil (Motorcraft YN-12c) should be used to lubricate the O-ring seals. Only PAG refrigerant compressor oil (F7AZ-19589-DA/Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent meeting the manufacturer’s specification should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.
NOTE: The compressor contains refrigerant oil. Do not allow the oil to drain out of the compressor. Any oil that drains out of the compressor must be replaced.
To Remove:
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system then disconnect the electrical connectors from the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor pressure relief valve.
- Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
- Remove the manifold retaining bolt.
- Remove the bolts and remove the A/C compressor.
- Throw away the O-ring seals.
To Install:
- Install the A/C compressor and bolts. Torque to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
- Install the manifold retaining bolt. Torque to 13-17 ft-lb (17-23 Nm).
- Install the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
- Connect the electrical connectors to the A/C compressor and the A/C compressor pressure relief valve.
- Recharge the air conditioning system with the proper type and amount of refrigerant.
- Check the operation of the air conditioning system.
