Compressor Clutch & Clutch Field Coil

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Remove the A/C compressor.
  2. Use a spanner wrench (special tool #205-036) to hold the A/C clutch hub and remove the retaining bolt.

  3. To remove the A/C clutch and the A/C clutch hub spacer, do the following:
  4. Remove the pulley snap ring.
  5. Remove the A/C clutch pulley.

    CAUTION
    The A/C clutch field coil can easily be damaged, so do not use air tools.

  6. Remove the A/C clutch field coil.

To Install:

  1. Clean the A/C clutch field coil and pulley bearing mounting surfaces.

    CAUTION
    Do not use air tools because the A/C clutch field coil can be easily damaged.

  2.  To install the A/C clutch field coil, do the following:

    2-Jaw puller (#205-D026)

    NOTE: The bearing must be correctly aligned to be pushed on because it is a tight fit onto the A/C compressor head.

  3. Install the A/C clutch pulley.
  4. Keeping the bevel side out, install the pulley snap ring.
  5. Place one nominal thickness A/C clutch hub spacer inside the clutch hub spline opening.
  6. Install the A/C clutch.
  7. To install the A/C clutch hub retaining bolt, use a spanner wrench (special tool #205-036) to hold the A/C clutch hub. Tighten the bolt to 98-123 in-lb (11-14 Nm).

  8. Measure and adjust the clutch air gap by removing or adding A/C clutch hub spacers. The appropriate measurement is 0.014-0.030 in (0.35-0.75 mm).
  9. Install the A/C compressor.
