Extension Housing Seal

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Put the vehicle in NEUTRAL then raise and safely support the vehicle.

    NOTE: Mark the rear driveshaft yoke and axle flange before removal to ensure alignment to their original positions and maintenance of initial driveshaft balance at installation.

  2. Mark the rear driveshaft.

  3. Remove the bolts then remove the rear driveshaft.
  4. Using the slide hammer (100-001) and the torque converter fluid seal remover (307-309), remove the extension housing seal.

To Install:

  1. Place a new extension housing seal with the drain hole in the 6 o’clock position.
  2. Using a transmission extension housing fluid seal installer (307-038), install the extension housing seal.

    NOTE: Examine the driveshaft slip-yoke for wear and damage. Install a new one if necessary.

  3. Using the marks made during removal, align the driveshaft to maintain correct balance.

  4. Install the rear driveshaft bolts. Torque to 70-95 ft-lb (95-129 Nm).
  5. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level with clean automatic transmission fluid and make sure the transmission operates correctly.
