Bleeding (Manual)

WARNING
Read all warnings and instructions on product labels before using. For EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION seek medical advice. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.

CAUTION
Brake fluid will harm plastic and painted surfaces. If brake fluid touches a plastic or painted surface, wash it with water immediately.

CAUTION
Make sure to not let the brake master cylinder reservoir to run dry during bleeding. Keep it filled with the correct type of brake fluid. Do not reuse the brake fluid that was drained from the hydraulic system.

NOTE: Once any portion of the hydraulic system has been disconnected, air is able to get into the system and cause brake pedal action to become spongy. This necessitates bleeding of the hydraulic system after it has been properly connected. The hydraulic system can be bled either manually or with pressure bleeding equipment.

  1. Clean any dirt off of the brake master cylinder filler cap then remove it and fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with the correct type and amount of brake fluid.
  2. Put a box end wrench on the right-hand rear bleeder screw then attach a rubber drain hose to the same screw, and submerge the free end of the hose into a container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
  3. Have an assistant pump, then hold firm pressure on, the brake pedal.
  4. Loosen the right-hand rear bleeder screw until a stream of brake fluid comes out. With an assistant maintaining pressure on the brake pedal, tighten the right-hand rear bleeder screw. Repeat this action until the fluid comes out clear and free of bubbles. Refill the brake master cylinder reservoir when necessary.
  5. Tighten the right-hand rear bleeder screw. Torque to 11 ft-lb (15 Nm).
  6. Repeat steps 2, 3, 4, and 5 for the left-hand rear bleeder screw.
  7. Put a box end wrench on the right-hand front disc brake caliper bleeder screw then attach a rubber drain hose to the same screw, and submerge the free end of the hose into a container partially filled with clean brake fluid.
  8. Have an assistant pump, then hold firm pressure on, the brake pedal.
  9. Loosen the right-hand front disc brake caliper bleeder screw until a stream of brake fluid comes out. With an assistant maintaining pressure on the brake pedal, tighten the right-hand front disc brake caliper bleeder screw. Repeat this action until the fluid comes out clear and free of bubbles. Refill the brake master cylinder reservoir when necessary.
  10. Tighten the right-hand front disc brake caliper bleeder screw.
  11. Repeat steps 7, 8, 9, and 10 for the left-hand front disc brake caliper bleeder screw.
