NOTE: The 3.0L and 4.0L engines use timing chains; only engines
using timing belts will be covered here.
- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning
of this section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
- Negative battery cable
- Timing belt cover
- Drive belt
- Align the crankshaft and camshaft timing marks and remove the timing belt.
- Crankshaft pulley center bolt and slide the pulley off of the crankshaft
- Crankshaft key
WARNING
Do not damage the crankshaft sealing surface while removing the oil seal.
- Crankshaft Seal Remover tool T74P-6700-B on the crankshaft and into
the oil seal.
- Oil seal and clean the seal journal
To install:
- Apply clean engine oil to the rubber lip of the new seal to aid installation.
- Using Cam Bearing Adapter Tube T72C-6250, or equivalent, and crankshaft
center bolt, carefully install the new oil seal until flush with the engine.
- Install or connect the following:
- Key and crankshaft pulley, washer and bolt. Torque the bolt to 92–121
ft. lbs. (125–165 Nm).
- Timing belt
- Timing belt and cover
- Drive belt
- Negative battery cable
- Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
