Fuel Pump

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

2.3L, 2.5L and 3.0L Engines

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable
   • Fuel tank
   • Fuel tank pump locking retainer ring
   • Fuel pump mounting gasket and discard the gasket
   • Fuel pump

   To install:

4. Install or connect the following:
   • Fuel pump and a new mounting gasket
   • Fuel tank pump locking retainer ring. Torque the ring to 66 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
   • Fuel tank
   • Negative battery cable
5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

4.0L Engines

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Remove or disconnect the following:
   • Negative battery cable
   • Fuel tank
   • Fuel pressure transducer electrical connector
   • Fuel pump assembly

   To install:

4. Install or connect the following:
   • Fuel pump and align the arrow on the flange with the dimple on the fuel tank. Torque the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
   • Fuel pressure transducer electrical connector
   • Fuel tank
   • Negative battery cable
5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
