- Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning
of this section.
- Remove or disconnect the following:
- Negative battery cable
- Wheel
- Brake caliper
- Locking hubs and wheel bearings
- Brake rotor
- Font wheel spindle from the steering knuckle
- Brake shield
- Shaft and joint by pulling it out of the carrier, left side only
- Front driveshaft boot clamps from the outer shaft and joint
- Shaft and joint assembly from the splines of the stub shaft
- Place the spindle in a vice and remove the wheel hub grease seal and
needle bearing
- Slinger from the shaft by tapping on it with a hammer, if necessary
To install:
- Install or connect the following:
- Spindle needle bearing in the bore with the identification mark facing
outward
- Drive the bearing into the bore with a Spindle Bearing Replacer tool, T80T-4000-s
and T80T-4000-W.
- Hub grease seal in the bearing bore with lip side facing the tool and
coat the lip with a high temperature lubricant
- Place the axle shaft in a press and install a new slinger, if removed
- Rubber boot and clamps on the right side of the carrier
- Slide the right shaft and joint into the slip yoke and fully engage
the splines
- Slide the boot over the assembly and crimp the new clamps
- Slide the shaft and joint through the steering knuckle and engage the
splines on the shaft, left side
- Brake rotor shield. Torque the bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
- Brake rotor to the spindle
- Outer differential bearing into the bearing cup
- Wheel bearing, locknut, thrust bearing, snap-rings and locking hubs
- Caliper
- Wheel
- Negative battery cable
