To Remove:
- Put the vehicle in NEUTRAL then raise and safely support the vehicle.
NOTE: If present, the transmission servo heat shield must be unclipped from the fluid pan rail and positioned out of the way for fluid pan removal.
- If present, loosen the nut and position the heat shield out of the way.
- Drain the transmission fluid. To do this, remove all the transmission fluid pan screws except for two in the front. Loosen the 2 front transmission fluid pan screws. Pry the rear of the transmission fluid pan down and allow fluid to drain. After fluid is drained, remove the front 2 transmission fluid pan screws.
- Remove the transmission fluid pan then remove and throw away the transmission fluid pan gasket.
- Remove the transmission fluid filter screw then remove and throw away the transmission fluid filter.
- Clean and examine the transmission fluid pan and magnet. Clean all mating surfaces.
To Install:
CAUTION
Fluid filter O-ring seals must be lubricated with clean automatic transmission fluid. Using anything else for lubrication can cause damage to the O-ring seals.
- Place the transmission fluid filter onto the main control valve body.
- Lubricate and install new O-ring seals onto the transmission fluid filter.
- Install a new transmission fluid filter.
- Torque fastener to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
- Place the fluid pan magnet into the transmission fluid pan.
- Place a new transmission fluid pan gasket on the transmission fluid pan then install the transmission fluid pan and loosely install the transmission fluid pan screws.
- Tighten the transmission fluid pan screws in a crisscross sequence.
- Torque to 10 ft-lb (14 Nm).
- If present, place the servo heat shield over the servos and clip it to the pan rail.
- Torque to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
NOTE: Be sure to have at least 4 quarts (3.7 liters) of clean automatic transmission fluid on hand when you are ready to fill the transmission.
- Fill the transmission to the correct fluid level with clean automatic transmission fluid.
- Apply the parking brake and start the engine.
- Move the range selector lever through all of the gears.
- Check the transmission fluid level.
