Removal & Installation

To Remove:

WARNING
You must shut off the electrical power to the air suspension system before jacking, hoisting, or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be done by turning off the air suspension switch in the rear jack storage area. Failure to shut off the electrical power may result in unexpected deflation or inflation of the air springs or shocks, which may cause shifting of the vehicle during this procedure.

1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
2. Remove the torsion bar cover plate.

   NOTE: Measure and make note of the measurement of the torsion bar adjustment bolt before relieving the torsion bar tension. You will use this measurement as the preset depth for the new torsion bar adjustment bolt during the installation procedure.

3. Make preliminary adjustment references.
4. Relieve the torsion bar tension by tightening the torsion bar tool until the torsion bar adjuster lifts off of the adjustment bolt.

   Measure and record the length where indicated

   CAUTION
   The torsion bar adjustment bolt must be replaced if it is backed off or removed because it is coated with dry adhesive. Failure to do this may cause the adjustment bolt to loosen during operation and cause a loss of vehicle alignment.

5. Remove the torsion bar adjustment bolt and nut.
6. Loosen the Torsion Bar Tool until the tension is removed from the torsion bar.
7. Mark the torsion bar and the adjuster for proper installation later, then remove the torsion bar.

To Install:

1. Position the torsion bar and the torsion bar adjuster.
2. Install the torsion bar adjuster.

   CAUTION
   The torsion bar adjustment bolt must be replaced if it is backed off or removed because it is coated with dry adhesive. Failure to do this may cause the adjustment bolt to loosen during operation and cause a loss of vehicle alignment.

3. Preload the torsion bar by first installing the torsion bar tool and adapters. Turn the adjustment bolt until you reach the preliminary adjustment measurement you recorded earlier.
4. Remove the torsion bar tool.
5. Install the torsion bar cover plate and bolts.
   • Torque to 35-46 ft-lb (47-63 Nm).

   NOTE: If the vehicle has air suspension, reactivate the system by turning the air suspension switch on.

6. Safely lower the vehicle.
7. Adjust the ride height.
8. Check to make sure the alignment is correct.
