Hydraulic Modulator (Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU))

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

WARNING

CAUTION
Brake fluid will harm plastic and painted surfaces. If brake fluid touches a plastic or painted surface, wash it with water immediately.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Rotate the release lever to disconnect the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module electrical connector.

    NOTE: Once you have removed the brake lines, cap the holes in the hydraulic control unit (HCU) to keep dust and foreign material from getting into the brake line ports.

  3. Remove the brake lines from the HCU.
  4. Remove the nuts and the HCU assembly.

CAUTION
Once the HCU is installed, bleed the hydraulic brake system.

NOTE: Remove the ABS module if a new HCU will be installed.

To Install:

CAUTION
Once the HCU is installed, bleed the hydraulic brake system.

  1. Install the HCU assembly and nuts.

    NOTE: Uncap the holes in the HCU before you install the brake lines.

  2. Install the brake lines in the HCU.
  3. Connect the ABS module electrical connector.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.
