Exhaust Manifold

Removal & Installation

Left Side

To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Put the vehicle in neutral and place it on a hoist.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the exhaust flange nuts.
  5. Remove the nut and the dipstick and tube assembly.
  6. Remove the upper intake manifold support brace.
  7. Remove the bolts, nuts, and the exhaust manifold and gasket.

To Install:

  1. Clean the mating surfaces for the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
  2. Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown below. Torque the bolts in two steps:

    Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts in sequence-3.0L left side

  3. Install the upper intake manifold support brace.

    NOTE: The end of the dipstick tube must be cleaned with metal parts cleaner before application of the sealant.

  4. Install the dipstick and tube assembly. Coat the dipstick tube with silicone sealant.
  5. Install the dipstick tube bracket nut.
  6. Install the exhaust flange nuts.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
Right Side

To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Put the vehicle in neutral and place it on a hoist.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the exhaust flange nuts.
  5. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and stud bolts.
  6. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold.

To Install:

  1. Clean the mating surfaces for the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.
  2. Place the exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold in the correct position.
  3. Install the bolts and nuts then torque in the following sequence:

    Tighten the right side exhaust manifold bolts in the proper sequence-3.0L

  4. Install the exhaust flange nuts.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
