Oil Pump

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the oil pan.
  5. Remove the oil pick-up tube assembly from the pump.
  6. Remove the oil pump retainer bolts and the oil pump.

To Install:

  1. Prime the oil pump with clean engine oil by filling either the inlet or the outlet port. Rotate the pump shaft to distribute the oil within the pump body.
  2. Install the oil pump.

    CAUTION
    Do not force the oil pump if it does not seat readily. The oil pump driveshaft may be misaligned with the distributor or shaft assembly. If the pump is tightened down with the driveshaft misaligned, damage to the pump could occur. To align, rotate the intermediate driveshaft into a new position.

  3. Install the oil pick-up and tube assembly.
  4. Install the oil pan.
  5. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  6. Start the vehicle and check for leaks. Repair if necessary.
