Evaporative Emission Canister

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

1. Lower the spare tire out of the way.

   WARNING
   The evaporative emission (EVAP) system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. While these are not present in large quantities, they still create the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the negative battery cable to minimize the possibility of electric sparks causing a fire or explosion. If you do not follow these instructions, personal injury or vehicle damage may occur.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Lift the vehicle with a hoist.
4. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge inlet tube.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
6. Remove the nuts and bolts.
7. Remove the EVAP canister and bracket assembly.
8. Disconnect the vapor hose from the canister.
9. Remove the canister from the housing.
10. Lubricate all O-ring seals with the proper lubricant.

To Install:

1. Lubricate all O-ring seals with the proper lubricant.
2. Install the canister.
3. Connect the vapor hose to the canister.
4. Install the EVAP canister and bracket assembly.
5. Install the nuts and bolts.
   • Torque to 10 ft-lb (14 Nm).
6. Connect the electrical connector.
7. Connect the EVAP canister purge inlet tube.
8. Lower vehicle back to the ground.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
10. Perform the EVAP System Leak Test. (Refer to EVAP System Leak Test procedure.)
11. Perform the EVAP Repair Verification Drive Cycle. (Refer to EVAP Repair Verification Drive Cycle procedure.)
