Removal & Installation

To Remove:

WARNING
Do not smoke or have lit tobacco or an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable substances are always present during such procedures and may accidentally be ignited, causing possible personal injury or vehicle damage.

WARNING
Any fuel in the fuel system is still under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, which can result in personal injury or a fire hazard.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel pressure.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold.
  4. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring from the fuel injectors then disconnect the fuel hose.
  5. As an assembly, remove the fuel injection supply manifold and the fuel injectors after removing the bolts holding them on.
  6. Remove the fuel injectors from the fuel supply manifold then remove the fuel injector O-rings. Throw the O-rings away.

To Install:

CAUTION
Use O-ring seals that are made of special fuel-resistant material. Do not use ordinary O-ring seals because they can cause the fuel system to leak. Do not reuse the O-ring seals, install new ones.

NOTE: Lubricate the new O-rings with clean engine oil before installing.

  1. Install new O-rings on the fuel injectors and install the fuel injectors.
  2. Install the fuel injection supply manifold. Torque to 89 in. lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Connect the fuel hose then connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
  4. Install the upper intake manifold.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
