Clutch Disc & Pressure Plate

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Remove the transmission.

    CAUTION
If the clutch disc and pressure plate are to be reinstalled, bolts must be removed evenly or permanent damage to the diaphragm spring will occur resulting in complete clutch release.

  2. If parts will be reused, index-mark the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel.
  3. Remove the bolts, clutch pressure plate, and clutch disc.

To Install:

  1. Lubricate the transmission input shaft pilot bearing with grease.
  2. To adjust the clutch pressure plate, use an appropriate press and press down on the fingers until the adjusting ring moves freely. Next, turn the adjusting ring counterclockwise to compress the tension springs and hold the adjusting ring in this position. Then, release the pressure on the fingers because the adjusting ring will remain in the reset position.
  3. Using the clutch disc aligner (308-006), position the clutch disc on the flywheel.

NOTE: If the clutch pressure plate and flywheel will be reused, align the marks made during removal.

  4. Use the clutch disc aligner (308-006) to align the clutch disc and clutch pressure plate. Install the bolts and tighten in a star pattern sequence.

NOTE: Connect the hydraulic line to the clutch slave cylinder before securing the transmission to the engine.

  5. Install the transmission.
