CAUTION
If installing a new air conditioning compressor due to an internal failure of the old unit, you must flush the air conditioning system prior to installing a new air conditioning compressor.
CAUTION
Only refrigerant compressor oil (mineral oil) (F73Z-19577-AA/Motorcraft YN-9-A) should be used to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals and it should not be added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant. Only PAG refrigerant compressor oil (F7AZ-19589-DA/Motorcraft YN-12-C) or an equivalent meeting the manufacturer’s specification should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.
NOTE: The compressor contains refrigerant oil. Do not allow the oil to drain out of the compressor. Any oil that drains out of the compressor must be replaced.
NOTE: Make sure to use O-rings specifically designed for R-134a systems.
To Remove:
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system then disconnect the air cleaner outlet tube.
- Remove the drive belt from the A/C compressor pulley.
- Remove the bolts and place the power steering reservoir to the side.
- Remove the bolts and remove the power steering bracket.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C compressor.
- Remove the bolt and detach the manifold and tube from the A/C compressor.
- Remove the retaining pins and position the inner fender well splash shield aside.
- Remove the four A/C compressor nuts and studs, and remove the A/C compressor.
- Throw away the O-ring seals.
To Install:
- Install the A/C compressor.
- Torque to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
- Use new O-rings and connect the compressor manifold and tube assembly.
- Torque the bolt to 15 ft-lb (20 Nm).
- Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
- Install the inner fender well splash shield.
- Install the power steering bracket and power steering reservoir.
- Install the drive belt.
- Connect the air cleaner outlet tube.
- Recharge the air conditioning system with the proper type and amount of refrigerant.
- Check the operation of the air conditioning system.
