Removal & Installation

WARNING
When repairing starter motor or performing any maintenance in the area of the starter motor, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure a new protective cap is installed over the terminal after repair.

To Remove:

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the starter motor solenoid cover.
  4. Disconnect the starter wires.
  5. Remove the nut and the starter ground cable.
  6. Remove the bolt, the stud bolt, and the starter motor.

To Install:

  1. Install the starter motor, the stud bolt, and other bolts. Initially install the starter bolts finger tight, then tighten upper bolt first and lower stud bolt second.
  2. Install starter ground cable and nut.
  3. Reconnect starter wires.
  4. Install the starter motor solenoid cover.
  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
