Crankshaft Pulley

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Remove the fan shroud.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt.

    CAUTION
    This bolt cannot be reused because it is a torque-to-yield type bolt.

  3. Using a commercially available strap wrench or its equivalent, remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  4. Using the crankshaft vibration damper remover (303-101) and the crankshaft vibration damper remover (303-773), remove the crankshaft pulley.

To Install:

NOTE: The sealing area must be secured within 4 minutes of applying the sealant or the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. To clean the sealing area, use silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging. Failure to follow the correct procedure may result in future oil leakage.

  1. Apply silicone gasket and sealant to the Woodruff key slot on the crankshaft pulley.
  2. Using the crankshaft vibration damper installer tool (303-102) or equivalent, install the crankshaft pulley.
  3. Using a commercially-available strap wrench, install a new crankshaft pulley bolt. Tighten the bolt in 2 steps.
  4. Install the accessory drive belt.
  5. Install the fan shroud.
