Oil Pan

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

NOTE: The 4.0L engine does not use an oil pan in the conventional sense. There is a separate access panel that unbolts from what would be considered the oil pan (which is now known as the ladder frame).

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
    1. Drain the engine oil.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    3. Raise and support the vehicle.
    4. Remove the bolts and the oil pan.

NOTE: All sealing surfaces must be cleaned before assembly. Use metal surface cleaner to clean these surfaces.

    5. Remove the oil pan and discard the gasket.

To Install:

  1. Install the new gasket and oil pan.
  2. Connect the negative battery cable.
  3. Fill the engine with clean oil.
  4. Start the vehicle and check for leaks. Repair as necessary.
