Oil Pump

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

NOTE: The oil pump cannot be removed with the engine in the vehicle.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
4. Remove the oil pan.
5. Unbolt the oil pick-up tube.
6. Remove the 8 ladder frame bolts under the oil pan.
7. Remove the 2 rear outer ladder frame bolts.
8. Remove the 7 left-hand and the 8 right-hand ladder frame bolts.
9. Remove the ladder frame from the engine.
10. Remove the 2 oil pump attaching bolts and the pump.

To Install:

1. Submerge the pump in clean engine oil and rotate it to prime the pump.
2. Install the ladder frame on the engine.
3. Install the 8 right-hand and 7 left-hand ladder frame bolts.
4. Install the 2 rear outer and the 8 frame bolts under the pan.
5. Install the oil pump.
   • Torque the bolts to 13-15 ft-lb (17-21 Nm).
6. Install the oil pick-up tube.
7. Install the oil pan.
   • Torque the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
8. Install the engine in the vehicle.
9. Install the negative battery cable.
10. Fill the engine with clean oil.
11. Start the vehicle and check for leaks. Repair if necessary.
