  11. Disconnect the MAF sensor and wiring pin-type retainer. Move to the side.

    CAUTION
Be sure to twist the spark plug wire boots while pulling them upward to avoid damaging the spark plug wire.

NOTE: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Mark the spark plug wire locations before removing them.

  12. Disconnect the spark plug wires and the spark plug wire retainer and move the wires to the side.
  13. Remove the wiring harness retainer.
  14. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors. Move the wiring to the side.
  15. Remove the bolts and the valve cover.

To Install:

CAUTION
Do not use wire brushes, metal scrapers, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges, which can make leak paths.

  1. Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces. Install a new gasket if needed.
  2. Install the valve cover and bolts.
  3. Connect the fuel injector electrical connectors.
  4. Install the wiring harness retainer.

NOTE: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Use the markings you made on the spark plug wires during removal to install them in the correct locations.

  5. Connect the spark plug wire retainer and spark plugs.
  6. Connect the MAF sensor and wiring pin-type retainer.
  7. Connect the heater hose.
  8. Install the coolant tube and bracket assembly and attach the wiring harness retainer.
  9. Connect the coolant hoses.
  10. Install the coolant tube bracket bolts.
  11. On vehicles with automatic transmission ONLY: Position the transmission fluid level indicator and tube assembly and install the bolt.
  12. Connect the vacuum hose and install the crankcase breather hose.
  13. Install the upper radiator hose.
  14. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe.
  15. Properly fill the cooling system.
  16. Connect the negative battery cable.
