Water Pump

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Remove the fan shroud.
5. Remove the belt idler pulley.
6. Slide the water bypass hose clamp back.
7. Disconnect the heater hose.
8. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
9. Remove the water pump pulley and the water pump.

WARNING
Use care when scraping the water-pump-to-engine-block mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum can form leak paths.

To Install:

1. Clean all the sealing surfaces.
2. Install the water pump.
   • Torque to 89 in-lb (10 Nm).
3. Install the water pump pulley.
   • Torque to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
4. Connect the lower radiator hose.
5. Connect the heater hose.
6. Return the water bypass hose clamp to its original position.
7. Install the belt idler pulley.
8. Install the fan shroud.
9. Fill the cooling system.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Start the vehicle and check for leaks, repair if necessary.
