Adjustment

CAUTION
To prevent damage, do not adjust the transmission shift cable in any position other than (D).

  1. Put the gearshift lever into the (D) position and hang a 3 lb (1.4 kg) weight onto the shift control selector lever.
  2. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the manual control lever.
  3. Pull out the transmission shift cable adjustment lock on the shift cable body.
  4. Rotate the manual control lever completely counterclockwise then rotate it clockwise to the (D) position (2 detents).
  5. Connect the transmission shift cable to the manual control lever.
  6. Push in the transmission shift cable adjustment lock on the shift cable body.
  7. Remove the 3 lb (1.4 kg) weight placed earlier.
  8. Make sure the vehicle will start only in PARK or NEUTRAL and that the backup lights work when the vehicle is in REVERSE. If this is not the case, repeat this procedure and carry out a digital transmission range sensor alignment.
