Clutch Master Cylinder/Reservoir

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Use the hydraulic line connector remover (308-182) to disconnect the hydraulic line from the clutch slave cylinder.
  3. Make sure to clean the area around the quick disconnect coupling.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Remove the lower steering column finish panel.
  6. Remove the bolts and lower reinforcement panel.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector for the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch.
  8. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder rod from the clutch pedal arm.
  9. To remove the CPP switch, lift the upper cover from the lock tabs and pull up the upper cover, then turn and remove the CPP switch from the clutch master cylinder rod.
  10. Remove the reservoir.
  11. Remove the pushpins, bolts, screws, and the inner fender splash shield.
  12. Unclip the hydraulic line-to-frame retainer.

    CAUTION
    Brake fluid will harm plastic and painted surfaces. If brake fluid touches a plastic or painted surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

  13. To unlock and remove the clutch master cylinder assembly, twist the clutch master cylinder counterclockwise 45 degrees to unlock it from the support bracket.
  14. As an assembly, remove the reservoir, hydraulic line, and clutch master cylinder.

To Install:

  1. As an assembly, install the reservoir, hydraulic line, and clutch master cylinder.

    CAUTION
    Brake fluid will harm plastic and painted surfaces. If brake fluid touches a plastic or painted surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

  2. Install the clutch master cylinder assembly into its original position.
  3. Clip in the hydraulic line-to-frame retainer.
  4. Install the inner fender splash shield, screws, bolts, and pushpins.
  5. Install the reservoir.
  6. Install the CPP switch into its original position.
  7. Connect the clutch master cylinder rod to the clutch pedal arm. Make sure to install a new push rod retainer.
  8. Connect the electrical connector for the CPP switch.
  9. Install the lower reinforcement panel and bolts.
  10. Install the lower steering column finish panel.
  11. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  12. Make sure to clean the area around the quick disconnect coupling.
  13. Reconnect the hydraulic line to the clutch slave cylinder.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Press and release the clutch pedal 15 strokes.
