To Remove:
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder.
To Install:
- Install the ignition lock cylinder.
- Make sure the ignition lock cylinder is working properly.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
To Remove:
WARNING
To minimize the risk of severe personal injury, be sure to read and follow all of the warnings and directions in the steering wheel removal and installation procedure.
NOTE: Be sure the front wheels are positioned facing straight ahead.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the steering wheel assembly.
- Twist off the cap of the ignition lock cylinder.
NOTE: The lock cylinder should be repaired by throwing away the broken lock cylinder and building a new one using the correct lock repair kit (F85Z-11582-AA). The lock repair package includes detailed instructions on how to build the new lock cylinder to match the current key code of the vehicle.
- Remove the ignition lock cylinder by using a 1/8-inch diameter drill bit to drill out the lock cylinder retaining pin. Next, use a 3/8-inch drill bit to drill down the middle of the ignition lock key slot until the ignition lock cylinder breaks loose. Remove and throw away the ignition lock cylinder and clear any drill shavings off of the steering column.
- Remove the bearing retainer.
- Remove the bearing and gear. Be sure to clean all drill shavings off of the steering column and examine it for signs of damage.
To Install:
- Install a new ignition lock cylinder.
- Make sure the ignition lock cylinder is working properly.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
