Power Steering Pump

Removal & Installation

2001–2005 Models
CII

To Remove:

  1. Remove the pump pulley.
  2. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose. Throw away the seal.
  3. Disconnect the power steering return hose and return line hose.
  4. Remove the bolts and the power steering pump.

To Install:

  1. Install the power steering pump and bolts.
  2. Connect the power steering return hose and return line hose.
  3. Use the Teflon® seal replacer set (211-D027) to install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose.
  4. Connect the power steering pressure hose.
  5. Install the pump pulley.
  6. Fill and test the system for leaks.

To Remove:

  1. Remove the engine cooling fan.
  2. Loosen the power steering pump pulley bolts.
  3. Turn the tensioner counterclockwise and remove the belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  4. Remove the power steering pump pulley.
  5. Disconnect the power steering return line hose at the power steering fluid reservoir and let the system drain.
  6. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  7. Disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose from the power steering pump.
  8. Remove the power steering pump.

To Install:

  1. Install the power steering pump and bolts.
  2. Connect the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump.
  3. Use the Teflon® seal installer set (211-D027) to install a new seal on the power steering pressure hose.
  4. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
  5. Connect the power steering return line hose to the power steering fluid reservoir.
  6. Install the power steering pump pulley and bolts and only hand-tighten the bolts.
  7. Install the drive belt.
  8. Torque the power steering pump pulley bolts to 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  9. Install the engine cooling fan.
  10. Fill and check the system for leaks.
2006–2007 Models

To Remove:

CAUTION
Be careful to prevent contaminants from entering the power steering system during the repair procedure because they can cause premature failure of the power steering components.

NOTE: Do not let power steering fluid touch the accessory drive belt.

  1. Use an appropriate suction device to drain the power steering fluid reservoir.
  2. Remove the engine cooling fan.
  3. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterclockwise and remove the accessory drive belt then remove the power steering pump pulley and bolts.
  4. Compress the clamp and disconnect the power steering supply hose from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  5. Disconnect the power steering pressure line from the power steering pump.
  6. Compress the clamp and disconnect the power steering fluid supply hose from the power steering pump.
  7. Remove the bolts and the power steering pump.

CAUTION
Any time the power steering pressure line is disconnected from the power steering pump, a new Teflon® O-ring seal must be installed.

To Install:

Any time the power steering pressure line is disconnected from the power steering pump, a new Teflon® O-ring seal must be installed.

  1. Install the power steering pump and bolts.
  2. Connect the power steering pressure line and use the Teflon® Seal Installer Set 211-D027 to install a new Teflon® O-ring seal on the power steering pressure line.
  3. Install the power steering pump pulley and bolts.

    NOTE: Do not let power steering fluid touch the accessory drive belt.

  4. Install the engine cooling fan.
  5. Fill the power steering system with the correct type and amount of fluid. Check for leaks.
