Steering Knuckle (Wheel Knuckle)

Removal & Installation

To Remove:

  1. Remove the center cap from the front wheel.
  2. Loosen the wheel hub nut.
  3. Put the vehicle in NEUTRAL, then raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the wheel hub nut and the washer. Throw away the wheel hub nut.
  5. Remove the brake disc.
  6. Use the front wheel hub remover tool (205-D070) to separate the outboard front wheel halfshaft joint from the wheel hub.
  7. Remove the brake shield.
  8. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness bolt and sensor retaining bolt.
  9. Remove the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt.
  10. Remove the three bolts and the wheel hub.
  11. Remove the tie-rod end castellated nut.

    CAUTION
    Do not separate the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle with a hammer or the wheel knuckle will be damaged.

    CAUTION
    Be careful not to damage the tie-rod boot when installing the steering arm remover tool (211-003).

  12. Use the steering arm remover tool (211-003) to separate the tie-rod end from the front wheel knuckle.

    Use the special tool to separate the tie rod end from the knuckle

  13. Use an appropriate support to support the front suspension lower arm.
  14. Remove the cotter pin and lower ball joint castellated nut.

    CAUTION
    Do not separate the ball joint from the wheel knuckle with a hammer to or the wheel knuckle will be damaged.

    CAUTION
    Do not damage the ball joint boot when installing the C-frame and screw installer/remover tool (211-023).

  15. Using the C-frame and screw installer/remover tool (211-023), separate the front wheel knuckle from the front suspension lower arm.
  16. Remove the pinch bolt and wheel knuckle.

To Install:

  1. Install the wheel knuckle and pinch bolt.
  2. Attach the front wheel knuckle and the front suspension lower arm.
  3. Install the lower ball joint castellated nut and the cotter pin.
  4. Remove the support from the front suspension lower arm.
  5. Attach the tie-rod end to the front wheel knuckle.
  6. Install the tie-rod end castellated nut.
  7. Install the three bolts and the wheel hub.
  8. Install the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt.
  9. Install the wheel speed sensor harness bolt and sensor retaining bolt.
  10. Install the brake shield.
  11. Attach the outboard front wheel halfshaft joint and the wheel hub.
  12. Install the brake disc.
  13. Install a new wheel hub nut and washer.
  14. Safely lower the vehicle.
  15. Tighten the wheel hub nut.
  16. Install the center cap to the front wheel.
