LEVEL CHECK

Periodic checking of the lubricant level is required at 6,000–7,500 mile (9,662–12,077 km) intervals. However, if you notice oil seepage from the rear axle, or a change in the sound of the axle, it is a good idea to check the oil level and replenish it if necessary. Any significant leaks should be repaired as soon as possible.

  1. Park the car on a level surface, set the parking brake and block the wheels.

  2. Remove the filler (upper) plug from the differential, using the proper size socket or ratchet and extension.
  3. Check the oil level; it should be up to the bottom of the filler hole. Add lubricant, as necessary.
  4. Clean the threads and reinstall the filler plug.
  5. Unblock the wheels.
